The Dokdo Day EventsDate: October 24, 2009, 11 am - 4 pm Place: The Lincoln Memorial, Washington, DC Events: Cultural performances, Marathon/Walkathon with Dokdo Racers, Writing Contest ... NAKA is an endorsing organization to this event, sponsored by the Washington Coalition for Dokdo Island On October 25, 1900, Dokdo Islands became part of Kyung-sang province of Korea (the modern Ulleung County) by a royal decree. North Kyungsang province observes this day annually, and the Korean-Americans around the Washington DC area will also observe October 25 as the Dokdo Day starting with this year¡¯s First Dokdo Day celebration. We hope to educate the Korean community as well as the non-Koreans about Dokdo to create a public opinion that Dokdo is a part of Korea. We are also having Korean traditional musical performances and Tae-kwon-do demonstrations on stage to publicize the Korean culture. (Office) 10/10/2009 |
