URGENT ACTION APPEAL FROM SOUTH KOREA CONCERNING THE RIGHTS OF MIGRANT WORKERS

One of the more interesting innovations in the Korean labour
movement in recent years has been the creation of a nationwide trade union for migrant workers, known as the "Equality Trade Union - Migrants Branch". But the South Korean government is somewhat less impressed with this idea, and as part of its campaign to deport tens
of thousands of migrant workers, it has apparently decided to crush their union, using immigration officers and armed police. Right now, activists from the union are engaged in a sit-in (now entering its third month) at the Myongdong Cathedral in the center of Seoul.
